Namgay Dorji was employed as a Trip Leader by a Bhutanese trekking contractor hired by Geographic Expeditions, Inc. to fulfill the government of Bhutan’s regulations for foreign treks. Namgay was responsible for ensuring that bus transportation, lodging, camping equipment, camp staff, and mule and yak drivers were scheduled and available; that all Bhutanese regulations were followed by the clients; and that fees and money were paid to the contractors. It was my responsibility to ensure Geographic Expedition clients were provided with the amenities they paid for; that the group observed and participated in various functions in Bhutan; and that all care was taken to ensure their safety throughout their remote wilderness trek. To that end, Namgay and I worked together daily sharing information and communicating hourly to our clients. Namgay was easily the most pleasant, efficient, and energetic trip leader I have worked with in Bhutan. What’s more, his English is perfect and his personality fits well with Geographic Expedition clientele.
